What Are the Three Things You Do After a Car Accident?

Car accidents are one of the worst times for remembering what to do next.  We might be in pain, scared, taking care of other people, and trying to keep track of the right things to do in order isn’t easy.

There are only three things you really need to do in case of a car accident.  If you can remember to follow these three steps, you’ll be able to get to the other side of that car accident in no time.

Check For Injury

The first thing you should do after the impact is stop and check for injury.  Make sure your car is off, and if you can move it- get it to the side of the road where no more damage can happen.  From here, check yourself and those around you for injury.  If you don’t see any movement in the other vehicle, and it’s safe to step out of your car, it’s a good idea to stop and check that the other drivers are okay as well.  If someone is hurt, it’s vital that they’re taken care of immediately. If you or anyone present at the scene carry a certification in first-aid, then you can provide immediate assistance to the injured party.

Call For Help

Calling for help can mean multiple different things, depending on the accident.  If there’s injury and large amounts of damage to vehicles and property, it’s a good idea to call emergency services.  Regardless of this, you’ll also need to call your insurance company and get a handle on what they need from you.  After the crash, it’s a good idea to talk to a personal injury lawyer and seek help if you were hurt or if any parts of the accident are being questioned or argued over.

Take Photos of Evidence

When you’re okay, and help is on the way, or you’ve called insurance, take photos of the damage to both vehicles.  Take a picture of the other car’s tags as well so you can make sure to have those within your documents.

If there are injuries, take the time to snap pictures of those injuries and of their healing process.  Although this may feel like overkill, if you’re hurt from this accident and need financial assistance to move past that hurt: it’s a good idea to have pictures showing what you went through.

Why In This Order?

The main thing to remember is to take these steps in this order.  Any person’s well-being and health are more important than gathering pictures of the scene or trying to call insurance.  It’s vital that you make sure that anyone who’s injured is being tended to and that medical assistance is on the way as quickly as possible.  You can talk to a lawyer later, but you should make sure you take pictures of the scene.  Photo evidence is extremely useful in court and can help you win the case.

Car Crashes Can Be Traumatic

Whether you’re in a fender bender or an accident where a vehicle fully rolls over: a car crash can be one of the most stressful things you can go through.  Make sure to follow these three key steps, and be careful with your life.
